BMW G 310 R & G 310 GS Discontinued in India
BMW G 310 R & G 310 GS Discontinued in India
Introduction
In a surprising yet strategic move, BMW Motorrad has officially discontinued its entry-level motorcycles — the BMW G 310 R and the BMW G 310 GS — in the Indian market. These models, developed in collaboration with TVS Motor Company, had been the most affordable offerings in BMW’s lineup.
Why Were They Discontinued?
The discontinuation is linked to the end of the lifecycle of the 310cc platform. With new OBD-2B emission norms kicking in, BMW chose not to update the G 310 R and G 310 GS models to meet the latest standards. As a result, production and dealer dispatches for both bikes came to a halt in early 2025.
Recent Discounts Before Exit
Before being pulled off the shelves, BMW offered attractive discounts of up to ₹50,000 on both models. These were aimed at clearing out existing stock before the regulation deadline. However, once the stock was exhausted, no fresh units were dispatched to showrooms.
Status of G 310 RR
While the G 310 R and GS are discontinued, the G 310 RR — the fully-faired sibling — continues to be on sale in India for now. It remains to be seen how long BMW will keep the RR model in the lineup or whether it will also face the same fate.
What’s Next from BMW?
To fill the gap left by the 310 twins, BMW Motorrad is expected to introduce the all-new F 450 GS as its new entry-level adventure offering in India. With fresh design, better performance, and modern features, the F 450 GS could be a strong contender in the segment.
Final Verdict
The exit of the G 310 R and G 310 GS marks the end of an era for BMW’s affordable motorcycle range in India. These bikes played a crucial role in expanding the brand’s reach to new and younger audiences. With their departure, all eyes are now on the upcoming F 450 GS to carry the baton forward.
